Kentucky Derby 2015 At           The GALAXY
Two of the Geezers, this year, went to The Galaxy to watch the 141st running of the Kentucky Derby Saturday, May 6th. Becky and Eva were the bartenders behind the bar. As usual there was the Derby Bonnet contest before the race, the proverbial Alien Race, and there was a chance to win gift certificates to the Galaxy as prizes for Win, Place or Show horses. However, we only had two chances. Slim and None and Slim left town. The Galaxy pulled a switch on us this year that we weren't too happy about.it. In years past they had One Win board, and a Separate Place and Show board. This year the had ONE BOARD, period. They listed all of the horses in the race, with Win, Place or Show spaces on the board to place your name next to your fave. However, with all of the people there, if someone else put their name under the horse and place that you wanted, you were shut out. We didn't know this. We were just relaxing at the bar. We could have picked our horses sooner, but as it turned out we had to place our names next to horses who couldn't tun faster than us. This was a terrible injustice!
But..... we did have a chance to win $500 (In a gift certificate to The Galaxy) if we hit the Tri-Fecta exactly. Fat chance. This is almost impossible with all of the horses that were running. However, for the first time in 7 years someone did win! Not us! A young lady won who didn't even look as though she was old enough to be in there.
The Galaxy made Mint Juleps available for those who wanted to try them, and they did have a Special Food menu. I placed an order for something called Burgoo Stew "To Go" which is a Derby delicacy.
The Geezers there were Joebo and Mr. Lobber.
At the 2013 Galaxy Derby Party, horse racing aficionado, Mr. Lobber picked a horse that finished "dead last". (But still lived) He received a last place (Horse's Ass) trophy for his effort. I don't remember the horse he picked.
This year my horse (Upstart) finished dead last. But did I get a trophy? Nooooooooooooooo! Such is life.
